Understanding the tariffs

Why We’re Pausing U.S. Orders – A Transparent Look at Tariffs and Shipping

Hello friends,

We wanted to take a moment to explain a major change in our shop: we are temporarily pausing all shipments to the United States. This decision was not made lightly, and we want you to understand the reasoning behind it and how it affects both you and our business.

What Are Tariffs and How Do They Affect Us?

Effective August 29, 2025, the U.S. eliminated the $800 de minimis exemption, which previously allowed low-value shipments to enter the country duty-free. This change means that all international shipments, regardless of value, are now subject to U.S. customs duties and taxes. The new duties can range from 10% to 50% of the item's value, or a flat fee between $80 and $200, depending on the product category and origin.

For our Etsy shop, this means:

  • Items we ship to the U.S. may now incur unexpected fees at customs, sometimes hundreds of dollars depending on the product.

  • These fees are collected by U.S. Customs when the package arrives, not by Etsy or us.

  • Even if we price items fairly in our shop, the buyer may be responsible for paying extra duties upon delivery.

How Tariffs Affect Our Small Business

As a small, independent shop, we carefully price our items to cover materials, labor, and shipping. U.S. tariffs introduce several complications:

  1. Unpredictable Costs: We never know in advance exactly how much your package will be taxed. This can result in buyers receiving unexpected bills.

  2. Shipping Complexity: Handling customs paperwork, certificates, and declarations takes extra time and increases the chance of delays.

  3. Financial Impact: If we absorb tariffs to protect customers, it can cut into our ability to continue producing high-quality custom items.

In short, these tariffs create uncertainty for both us and our customers — and that’s not a situation we want anyone to experience.

How This Will Affect Commission Prices ?

Unfortunately, the added costs and administrative burden from tariffs also affect our pricing for commissions. Even for Canadian and international orders, sourcing certain materials has become more expensive due to global supply chain pressures and tariff-related price increases.

  • Material costs may rise: Some specialty materials, like silicone or imported plastics, are now more expensive to purchase.

  • Labor and processing time: More paperwork and compliance measures mean additional time spent per commission.

  • Resulting price adjustments: To continue offering high-quality custom work, commission prices may increase slightly.

We always strive to be transparent and fair, and any adjustments will reflect real increases in costs, not arbitrary price changes.

What This Means for You

For our U.S. customers:

  • We will not be processing orders for delivery to the U.S. until the tariff situation improves.

  • All other buyers, Canadian and international customers outside the U.S. will continue to receive their items without change.

  • If you’re a past customer, rest assured that this is a temporary measure and not a permanent closure of our shop.

If you are a U.S. buyer commissioning a fursuit, you will be responsible for any additional duties, tariffs, or customs fees required to receive your package. These extra costs, including shipping-related handling or brokerage fees, can total up to $500 USD. Please factor this into your order to avoid delays or refusal of delivery.

Why We Made This Decision

Our mission is to provide high-quality, custom fursuit parts and accessories while keeping the buying process fair, transparent, and stress-free. With the current U.S. tariffs:

  • Shipping to the U.S. can create unexpected costs for buyers.

  • Managing customs paperwork and compliance takes extra time and resources, which affects our ability to focus on crafting your items.

By temporarily pausing U.S. shipments, we can protect both our customers and our business, ensuring that we continue to deliver the quality and service you expect.

Thank You for Understanding

We know this is disappointing for some of our U.S. fans, and we truly appreciate your support, patience, and understanding. Every purchase helps keep our small business running and allows us to continue creating the fursuit parts and accessories you love.

We’ll keep monitoring the tariff situation and will update our shop as soon as it’s possible to safely resume U.S. shipments.

Thank you for being part of our community  your support means the world to us. ♥️🐾
